Winbond and ChipMOS Join Hands to Drive Sustainable Education Through Circular Economy

Winbond Electronics Corporation (Winbond) and Nanya Technology Corporation (Nanya) jointly held a donation event titled “Connecting Silicon Hands for Sustainable Basketball” today (24th) at Ji’an Elementary School in Tainan City and Dashu Elementary School in Kaohsiung City. Through concrete actions, the companies brought circular economy and sustainability concepts into campuses, showcasing the tangible results of public–private collaboration between enterprises and the education system.
Winbond and Nanya stated that the selection of the recipient schools aims to deepen students’ understanding of circular economy and sustainability education, supplemented by local engagement and social contribution. Given that rural and non-urban schools often lack educational resources, employees from both companies jointly purchased more than 700 basketballs filled with love and donated them to 20 rural elementary schools in Tainan and Kaohsiung, helping to enhance sports and learning resources on campus.
Winbond and Nanya further emphasized that industrial water use in the Kaohsiung area is closely connected to the local environment. In addition to continuously promoting decarbonization and green transformation, enterprises should also work together in environmental restoration and biodiversity management to strengthen operational resilience and local ties.
In addition, Winbond and Nanya have accumulated three years of cooperation in carbon management and green electricity products. Moving forward, they will continue to integrate supply chain power to expand the social impact of sustainability initiatives. The donated basketballs were produced by Everlight Advanced Materials using a zero‑waste circular manufacturing process. With the support of the Center for Teacher Education and the Center for Corporate Sustainability Development at National Kaohsiung Normal University, the collaboration successfully facilitated cross‑sector partnerships between enterprises and schools. Together, they contributed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 7 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). By combining sustainable governance thinking within the semiconductor supply chain, the companies hope to guide supply chain partners to respond proactively to environmental protection and social co‑prosperity while pursuing business development.
