In the face of increasingly severe global climate change challenges, corporate carbon reduction efforts have become not only a responsibility but also a demonstration of competitiveness. The “Corporate Carbon Reduction Thermometer Platform,” jointly developed by CommonWealth Magazine and Tunghai University, utilized internationally recognized scientific methodologies to quantify the potential impact of corporate carbon reduction pathways on global warming. It has become the most credible carbon reduction assessment tool for enterprises in Taiwan. According to the latest evaluation results from the “Corporate 1.5°C Carbon Reduction White Paper,” Winbond achieved an outstanding score of 1.421°C on the platform, ranking the first in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry. This result showcased Winbond’s exceptional leadership in carbon management and sustainability practices. The score significantly outperformed the average warming potential of 1.998°C among all evaluated companies in Taiwan and aligned precisely with the 1.5°C warming control target set by the Paris Agreement, positioning Winbond as one of the most representative benchmark enterprises for carbon reduction in Taiwan.

Winbond has long been committed to greenhouse gas and energy management and has achieved several concrete results:

  • Completed comprehensive greenhouse gas inventories for Scope 1 and Scope 2, covering Winbond and its subsidiaries’ fabs. All inventories were verified under ISO 14064-1, ensuring transparency and credibility of carbon emission data.
  • Actively expanded renewable energy deployment. In 2024, Winbond introduced floating solar power systems. The proportion of renewable energy used by Winbond (Taiwan) reached 5.9%, with a clear target of achieving 50% renewable energy usage by 2030.
  • Responded to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) by expanding Scope 3 carbon emission inventories and strengthening carbon management across the supply chain, demonstrating a comprehensive commitment to global climate responsibility.

Looking ahead, Winbond will continue to deepen sustainability governance, enhance carbon reduction strategies and execution capabilities, and actively participate in international initiatives. Together with global partners, Winbond aims to achieve the shared goal of net-zero carbon emissions. We believe that only by embedding the sustainability vision into the core of operations can we create long-term value for the planet and advance steadily within the global industrial chain.
