Working with OSAT Partners to Reduce Scope 3 Carbon Emissions
Scope 3 emissions represent a major part of the Winbond’s carbon footprint, largely driven by outsourced assembly and testing (OSAT) services. As the industry transitions toward net zero, reducing supply chain emissions has become a strategic priority. At the same time, product quality, delivery, and supply stability must be maintained. We believe that carbon reduction is a shared responsibility—real progress can only be achieved by taking collective action with our partners.
We manage sustainability through close collaboration with OSAT partners. Together, we review carbon data and analyze production processes, with a clear focus on high emission areas such as electricity consumption and material consumption. Through cross functional teamwork and technical exchanges, we explore carbon reduction opportunities in equipment, processes, testing platforms, and packaging materials. We employ a “collaborative development and joint verification” approach, ensuring all improvement initiatives pass rigorous quality, reliability, and mass-production readiness checks before full implementation. At the product level, we are further strengthening our collaboration with OSAT partners and are scheduled to conduct our third Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) assessment this year. In the early stage, both the Company and suppliers faced challenges regarding data collection, system boundaries, and calculation methodologies. Through continuous dialogue and refinement, a comprehensive and shared working framework has been established.
With increasing experience, we are now able to clearly understand carbon emissions in assembly and testing processes, enabling us to implement targeted and effective carbon reduction strategies.
Through close collaboration with OSAT partners, several carbon reduction actions have been integrated into mass production. These include energy-efficient equipment upgrades, testing platform optimizations, process enhancements, and material reuse and recycling. These efforts have reduced carbon emissions per product and delivered measurable results. Furthermore, these actions establish a solid foundation for long-term supply chain decarbonization. Enhanced product carbon footprint assessments have also improved data transparency, thereby increasing supplier awareness, engagement, and commitment to carbon reduction activities.
Looking ahead, we continue to strengthen partnerships with OSAT suppliers. Through regular reviews and robust management systems, we will drive continuous low carbon initiatives across the supply chain.
Product carbon footprint assessments will be expanded and integrated with real production data. We will continue to develop practical, verifiable, and repeatable carbon reduction solutions.
By collaborating with supply chain partners, Winbond is committed to steadily reducing Scope 3 emissions and moving forward toward its net zero goal.
